We live in an age where complexity is praised. The more intricate an idea, the more impressive it seems. We assume depth hides in layers, and truth requires complication.
Yet Christ disrupted that assumption. He reduced the entire law to two commands. He defined greatness not by power but by service. He invited fishermen, not philosophers, to follow Him.
The simplicity of Christ is unsettling, because it leaves us no place to hide. Complicated systems give us excuses; simplicity confronts us. To love God and love people leaves little room for self-deception.
Perhaps this is why religion, often becomes cluttered, because the human heart fears the clarity of simplicity. We prefer rituals, hierarchies, and endless debates, rather than the straightforward call: Follow Me.
The paradox is this: the simplicity of Christ is not simplistic. It is not naïve or shallow. It is demanding, because love without condition is the hardest thing of all.
To embrace the simplicity of Christ is to strip away everything until only what matters remains. And when all else falls silent, the voice that still speaks is unmistakable:
“Come to Me.”
